Happpppppy Pride Month! I haven’t done a WWW Wednesday in a bit because I hit a bit of a reading lull where I was reading the same things I’d already talked about due to a) things being serialized so I’m constantly reading them, and b) reading a gazillion books at once so I wasn’t finishing stuff, haha!
I’ve recently started using Notion to track pretty much everything in my life and business and that includes ARCs, beta reading, review books, and pleasure reading. It has been so helpful in organizing and prioritizing my reading and I have been way more productive with my book consuming! Anyway, that is a post for another day (and you bet your sweet ass it’s coming). Because today is Wednesday! And it’s the first Wednesday of Pride Month 2021!
WWW Wednesday is hosted by Sam over at Taking on a World of Words, where we are to answer the trinity of Ws: What are you currently reading? What did you recently finish reading? and What do you think you’ll read next?
Drop your links in the comments below to your own WWW Wednesday posts, or if you don’t have a blog just answer the questions down there! All platforms welcome, this is a serial-friendly blog. 😉
Okay, so here are my Pride Month kickoff reads:
What are you currently reading?
EVERYTHING! But what I want to talk about today is Vitriolic, which is a Wattpad serial by the incredibly talented Andi Blackbird. While this particular tale (so far) features a hetero couple, her characters are famous for being attracted to all genders and multiple people and just wanting to take a romp in the hay with whoever they damn well please. I’ve read every single book in the Dark and Light series and I am never disappointed with the openness of her characters.
If you’re looking to enter the beautiful madness of this series, the first one is called The Darkness that Consumes the Light, and it is a deep dive into some hard themes while also being incredibly romantic and delightfully steamy. But if you’re wanting to celebrate Pride Month with a capital B for Bang, then you want Malicious, which is able to be read as a standalone (and a direct precursor to Vitriolic!). It’s got everything you want in an action-romance, and everything you ever needed when it comes to normalizing LGBT rep.
Also all of these amazing books are FREE on Wattpad. You literally can’t lose. Go hang out with Andi! She’ll only bite if you ask her to. 😉
What did you recently finish reading?
So I’d like to shout out two books, because the second one I’ve mentioned before and will be doing a formal review for soon but I still can’t shut up about it.
The first one, however, is another Wattpad book! One More Cup of Coffee by C.M. Williams is one of the sweetest things I’ve read in a very long time. I found it while maniacally adding as many Open Novella Contest entries to my reading lists as possible, and I couldn’t help but click on this one.
The story features Noor, an autistic enby who tries desperately to get the attention of super-introverted pianist Laurent in a series of just heartwarming moments. Also, Laurent has synesthesia, and can taste sounds, which makes playing the piano extra intense. But he does it anyway all day, so that he can be close to Noor. It’s seriously so freaking cute you guys.
Also it will make you super hungry and craving espresso. And snuggles. Go read this novella right now. I’ll wait.
All done? Okay, continuing!
My number two for this one is the delectable erotic gothic horror, My Lord! L.B. Shimaira had an interview with me that went live yesterday to kick off Pride Month with a review of her book In Sickness and in Hell, a horror novel featuring two female leads in a relationship. So if you missed out, click ‘Previous Post’ once you’re done this one!
For now, I’m talking about My Lord, which yes, I know I’ve mentioned on WWW Wednesday before, but now I’m finished it and I can’t recommend it enough. Not only has Shimaira crafted a rich backdrop for some epic lore, but the characters normalize poly and LGBT relationships and it is so damn romantic. (I know it’s a horror novel but come on, it’s still romantic, okay??)
What do you think you’ll read next?
I got lost in an Instagram hole the other day and stopped scrolling when I saw someone posting this incredibly eye-catching cover. And then when I went to read about the book, my eyes turned into big beating hearts, cartoon style.
Vibe by Liza James looks like a riot of a steamy lesbian romp and I am so here for it. I have been very careful not to read any reviews or anything, because I want to just dive in with zero context and zero preamble. I’ve never read Liza James before, and her Instagram is cool as hell. I am stoked to check out this book, and hopefully more in the future if this one is as awesome as I think it’s going to be!
I’m also so so in love with the whole aesthetic feel here, the bright colours and wispy words and gah I am gonna need this one in hard copy for sure!
So, what about you? What are your Wednesday reads? And if you’re burritoed in a rainbow flag today, what are your Pride Month reads? Hook me up!
